Romania's Mr. Pit needs no introduction to Coldharbour followers. Whether it's his melodic tones in Shana or River of Hearts, or his devious side in It is What it Is or Overload, his talents are always recognised. But on this occasion, he delves towards an inner anthem which is often applied as his personal signature - "Nasty Beats".

A familiar hypnotic moment if you have attended Markus Schulz's extended sets, Nasty Beats came to life during last year's Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, and anticipation has been building since. There are no bright sprinkles of light here; Nasty Beats is one of those dirty weapons best exposed on the dance floor.

'Virus E.P.' is out now on:

Dutch duo Isaac Vissers and Rob Koopmans have been responsible for some of Coldharbour Recordings' outstanding moments over the past couple of years. After a grand entrance with Nightshift, they ascended to even greater heights with Apache, a track label owner Markus Schulz declared as his biggest track of 2013.

And not long after donning the Buenos Aires '13 compilation with The Battle alongside Nifra, Fisherman & Hawkins are back in focus with two tracks sure to attract many.

Leading the way is Virus - a track which may be familiar to the ID trainspotters who attended Markus' solo sets throughout the summer season. Following its debut on Global DJ Broadcast in the middle of October, the track picked up the Global Selection accolade in its first attempt, thanks to its addictive melody. Antidote takes a slightly darker twist, but remains no less menacing.

"Markus Schulz's new artist album screams into its fifth single release with vocal anthem-in-the-making 'Nothing Without Me', and celebrates Coldharbour Recordings' 150th release in the process. Featuring the reflective, resonant vocals of Swedish songstress Ana Diaz and a 360° remix array (including rewires from Beat Service, Antillas and Markus himself), this release will be lighting club floors through Christmas and beyond.

Putting 'Nothing Without Me' into instant high gear is Markus' own Extended Mix, which gives a fully fleshed out club expansion to his original album version. Amplifying the drama of its snares and symbols, increasing the beauty of the drop's pads & chords and reaching its crescendo with the immense hard-struck notes of its lead line, it's a card-carrying floor demolisher.

Ana's lion hearted lyrics and resolute vocals tell it like it is - their topic certain to resonate whichever side of the sex divide you stand! With his Coldharbour Mix Schulz adds in nagging-ly, catchy energized sequences & feisty synth stabs. Drop-side and the Coldharbour Master cools heels, adding in more celestial and cinematic sounds & FX touches. Over in the remix quarter things are getting equally thermal. Raising the floor temperature from first bar to last, Estonia's Beat Service turns in a juggernaut of a mix. Charging it with big room drums and wickedly infectiously pitch-modulated synths, he echoes, pans and chops Diaz's vocals to furious effect, before setting them loose in the breakdown to maximum impact.

The package's parting shot comes from Italian maestro Antillas', whose Club Mix hits all our favourite 'D' point highs. Dark, Dirty, Discordant and Driving, the touch-paper is lit with his tough-house beats. He builds the floor tension with angle-grinding FX and a full spectrum of other dubstep-ish tricks to pressure cooker like levels. With the distortion running hot, its Ana's vocals that deliver the mix's anthemia, ascending towards a rhapsodic climax.

A mix for most any DJ taste and floor persuasion, 'Nothing Without Me' is out now!

    City of Angels (Original Mix)
    City of Angels (Deep Mix)
City of Angels (Beat Service Remix)

When details of Markus Schulz’s Los Angeles ’12 compilation first emerged, many eyes were drawn to the track “City of Angels” - not just because the name itself paid tribute to one of the greatest cities in the world, but it also highlighted a surprise collaboration between one of Coldharbour’s original visionaries, Elevation, and a duo ascending through the ranks, Grube & Hovsepian. A longtime friendship has resulted in undoubtedly one of 2012’s anthems.

Mike Targanski has spent much of his time between Detroit and Miami over the years, and under his Elevation guise, is responsible for producing what many regard as Coldharbour’s finest ever output - the iconic Biscayne from 2009. Tim Grube & Mike Hovsepian’s coast to coast friendship (respectively based in Miami and Los Angeles) has been symbolised with a steady stream of releases for Coldharbour in the past few years, most notably the anthemic Invisible, featured on the Prague ’11 compilation.

With the seeds sewn for Los Angeles ’12, the three minds united to create something that not only would be a key component to Markus Schulz’s livesets, but also one which would leave a lasting memory in the annals of the compilation series. The result - an energetic buildup with a melody and breakdown exemplifying what Coldharbour does best, and it is no surprise that it has become one of the most popular weekly requests on Global DJ Broadcast and elsewhere.

Not only is the original so appealing, the rest of the package aids the candidacy for City of Angels to be one of 2012’s best releases. The minds of Grube & Hovsepian were back at work to give the track a new twist, with the Deep Mix providing perfect ammunition to DJs playing early in the night, and indeed an important building block in a radio show. With festival season in earnest, one of Coldharbour’s go-to guys is recruited, and Estonia’s Beat Service delivers the goods again, with his remix a highlight of Markus’ sets at the recent Electric Daisy Carnival events in New York and Las Vegas.

Los Angeles is a place everyone should visit at least once, and thanks to the efforts of Elevation, combined with Grube & Hovsepian, Coldharbour’s affinity with the City of Angels will remain forever.
